Testimonials
Collected here are a few comments we’ve received from former C311 students on their experience with the course.
He said it’ll change the way I think about code and programming, it did and now it’ll seem strange to not have taken this course during my Master’s.
The lectures weren’t just merely lectures, instead I had moments of amazement during class, where I could relate greatly to what was being taught and still get served with something that can take us all by surprise!
It is no question that I will be looking forward to more courses taught by him.
I had a lot of interest in Functional Programming before enrolling in the course, and even more so now. The topics introduced in this course have definitely got me more interested into Programming Languages in general, and also Functional Programming concepts. The instructor has vast knowledge and experience suited to this course.
This was one of the most difficult courses I have ever taken, and at the same time, I feel it has been equally rewarding and intellectually stimulating. Perhaps my favorite part is the emergent nature of the course material, i.e., that we could perform a series of operations in class and suddenly lead to a more complex/powerful way of programming as a consequence of the steps. This made lectures and homework both very exciting and rewarding. Dr. Friedman is extremely knowledgeable in this field and communicates that expertise and enthusiasm with the class very well, and Darshal is indisputably the finest Al with whom I have had the pleasure of interacting for a course.
This class has been the most difficult, must frustrating, but most importantly most fun class I have ever taken. Honestly it would have to be my favorite class to date. [...] I’m hoping to learn a lot more about functional languages and continue to be successful with them.
Do’s of C311:
Do the assignments (Shoot for S+!),
Go to class and lab,
Start on the assignment the day it gets posted,
Go to office hours if you need help.Don’ts of C311:
Wait until the last second,
Skip class and lab,
E-mail an AI with less than three hours left on the assignment and expect a response immediately. It will be a tough and demanding class, but you’ve just gotta stick with it. It will wear you out ... but in the end, the results are worth it.
